For my seventh blog entry, I am talking about a story that I may be interested in for the photojournalism project. I was thinking about attending a sports game in the Tampa Bay area, whether that be a Lightning game, a Spring Training baseball game or even a Tampa Bay Vipers XFL football game. I have a very big interest in sports and I think that storytelling in sports is something that is often underrated. I would attend one of these events and write (as well as obviously photograph) about the experience a new fan would encounter during a sporting event in our area. At one point last year, I did something just like this when I attended a Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer game, my first professional soccer game, taking photos and writing about my experience at the game. Overall, I am looking forward to this project and being able to tell a story not only with words but with images as well.
For my sixth blog post, I will be writing about “Service Journalism.” To me, research studies are one of the most interesting kinds of stories to write about. For example, when I am going to write an analysis piece about a sports player, I love doing the research into that player’s statistics and about them to fully understand what it is I am researching and who I am writing about. I believe that my love for writing and my desire to get a research paper done would help my ability to put out a strong research piece on any topic that I have an interest in. I also could see myself writing a personality profile or a backgrounder as I am interested in hearing stories from other people. Knowing this, I am looking forward to completing my Audacity project.
For my interview, I talked to an Operations Specialist at the Florida Aquarium. We talked about the different operations of the aquarium and her many roles that she takes on throughout a normal day working there. I prepared for this interview by visiting the location beforehand and taking notes on my phone about things that peaked my interest during my visit. I faced little challenges during my interview as everything seemed to go smoothly and seamlessly. When it was finally time for me to conduct my interview, I had all of the questions that I was going to ask laid out on my phone and recorded our conversation using the Voice Memos app, allowing me to read each question off of my screen from the Notes app without having to go back and forth between apps. When the interview was finished, I transcribed the conversation and put it all into writing for my paper.
When you think of interesting places in Tampa to visit, what is one of the first places that come to mind? For me, it is the Florida Aquarium. My love for animals and marine life made the Florida Aquarium my first choice when looking for someone to interview, and because of that, I have ten questions that I asked one of the Operations Associates at the aquarium. The ten questions are listed below:
• What is your position at the aquarium? • What is it you do on a daily basis? • What qualifications did you need for your position? • What made you want to go into this career path? • What’s your career ladder in this position? • How long will it take for you to make that jump to the next step in the ladder? • What’s your favorite area of the aquarium to spend time in? • How many species of fish are in the aquarium? • Are there any benefits that come with working at the aquarium? • What services does the aquarium provide for the animals there?
Welcome back to my blog, today I will be writing my second post, and this post will be about who I would like to interview. If given the chance, I would love to interview a professional sports legend like Wayne Gretzky. For those who do not know, Wayne Gretzky is considered by most to be the greatest hockey player of all time, holding the NHL career records for goals, assists and points. I would ask Gretzky questions like, “What things do you see in today’s game that are different from the era you played in?” Additionally, I would ask Gretzky about goaltending in today’s NHL compared to when he played, as goaltenders now wear more padding than ever. This question would be something like, “If goaltenders in your era had the pads and protection that they do in today’s game, would you score less points, more points or about the same?” Those are some of the things that I would ask Wayne Gretzky, thank you for reading this latest blog post.
Hello and welcome to my blog, my name is Dominik Vega. The primary purpose of my blog will be to give me a place to write about sports, which is something that I am very passionate about. I am a big sports fan, and most of my favorite teams are located here in the Tampa Bay area. My favorite sport is baseball, and I am a Tampa Bay Rays fan. A close second for me to baseball is hockey, and my favorite team is the Tampa Bay Lightning. For football, I am, unfortunately, a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and for basketball, I am a fan of the Orlando Magic. I currently write about baseball for the SB Nation-owned website DRaysBay, which is the largest blog that covers Tampa Bay Rays baseball. While I enjoy sports, I value spending time with friends and family more than anything, and sometimes I’m able to enjoy both at the same time. Thank you for reading the introduction to my blog and I hope you stick around to read more posts from me!
